BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

 

2001 to present            Independent consultant, Crystal Lake, IL.  Implemented new general ledger systems, revised cost systems, and annual plans for clients. Straightened out accounting messes.

 

2001 to 2003               Accountemps, Hoffman Estates.  Staff Accountant.  Various assignments requiring senior account experience.  Included were duties as acting controller for major hotel and preparing personal property tax and annual reports for multi-state concern.

 

1999 to 2000               Reis Machines, Inc., Elgin, IL.  Controller.  Responsible for entire accounting and human resource area.  Major accomplishment was the replacement of group health program with savings of 50% and  replacement of 401k plan to improve program.

 

1997 to 1999               Accountemps, Hoffman Estates.  Staff Accountant.  Various assignments requiring senior accounting experience.  Included were SEC reporting, inventory work-up, tax schedules, consolidations, and accounting manager duties.

 

1993 to 1997               Independent consultant, Crystal Lake, IL.  Provided financial advice and implementation of accounting  systems, strategic plans, cost systems, risk planning, and allied items.

 

1991 to 1992               Autotrol corporation, Crystal Lake, IL.  A manufacturer of fractional horsepower electric motors.  Controller.  Responsible for all financial functions, including product costing.  Major accomplishment is the down-sizing of overhead cost which allowed survival of the LBO.  Other accomplishments included modernization of accounting systems and enhance use of computer system.

 

1978 to 1987               Funk Seeds International, Bloomington, IL, a company of Ciba-Geigy Corp., producer of quality seeds including hybrid seeds.

 

Assistant Controller and Manager – Financial Reporting, Accounting, Tax, and Fixed Assets.  Major responsibility was product costing and preparation of financial reports.  Major accomplishments were the revision of the accounting system and installation of new general ledger and updating of the costing system.

 

Assistant Controller and Manager – Budgeting.  Major responsibility was the production of the annual plan and analysis of the results.  Major accomplishment was the establishment of responsibility accounting.

 

Manager – Accounts Payable and Payroll.  Major accomplishment was the installation of accounts payable and payroll systems, reducing clerical staff 25%.

 

1977                            Pfizer Genetics Inc., Olivia, MN, division of Pfizer, producer of hybrid corn and sorghum.  Financial Analyst.  Responsibility was production of long range and annual operation plan.  Implemented a planning system where different function have different operating years.

 

1973 to 1976               The Ansul Company, Marinette, WI, a leading fire protection and agricultural chemical manufacturing concern listed on the NYSE.

 

Administrative and Financial Specialist, International Marketing Division.  Major responsibility was the controllership function.

 

Financial Analyst, Treasurer’s Department.  Managed cash, managed corporate insurance program, and monitored and reported employee benefit plans.  Major accomplishments were the restructuring of the property insurance program to expand coverage and achieve significant cost reduction and the establishment of a cash flow reporting system.

 

1971 to 1973               The R.T. French Company, Rochester, NY, a major food manufacturing concern.  Accountant.  Duties and responsibilities included lease analysis, payroll supervision, and merger of assets.  Major accomplishment was implementation of a direct deposit payroll system.

 

1965 to 1967               Peace Corps, Philippines.  Project Planner.  Developed plans for industrial subdivision and  vocational training school and participated in development of a planning corp. to aid provincial development.

 

 

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

 

1988 to 1990               Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.  Associate Instructor.  Taught introductory financial accounting.

 

1988                            Illinois State University, Normal, IL. Lecturer.  Taught introductory managerial accounting.

1969 to 1971               US Army, Ft. Campbell, KY, SP/5 Finance Clerk.  Directed section which paid basic trainees using a manual system.
